Twice a year Sarah opens her studio to teach Hawkshead House Courses from her beautiful home on the edge of English Lake District.

Teaching professional techniques in curtain making, roman blind making and cushion making the courses are suited to a variety of skill levels from the absolute beginner to the more experienced sewer who wishes to hone their skills.

Course days are great fun and invariably bring together a group of interesting and like-minded people wishing to create professional-looking soft furnishings. Some come to learn skills for their own homes whereas others come with a career change in mind. All are welcome and with small groups of no more than 5, individual attention is assured. Furthermore, Sarah always welcomes past students to stay in touch to provide any guidance with home projects and to share in their latest sewing successes!

Courses are all one day in length with the exception of the two-day Beginners’ Curtain Making Course. In order to make the day as easy and enjoyable as possible, everything is provided from morning coffee and a home-made two-course lunch to all your course materials. All you need to bring is yourself and you will go home with your sample item as well as comprehensive course notes to help with future projects. We are easy to find being 5 minutes from J35 (Carnforth) of the M6 on the Cumbria / Lancashire border and we can point you in the right direction of good accommodation should you be coming from further afield.

Courses are usually run over consecutive weekdays allowing students to choose one course or to attend a consolidated block. If the published dates prove impossible for you or you would prefer to attend alone we can also offer 1:1 days on a date more convenient to you.

There are no course dates currently available. Please contact us if you would like to explore one to one coaching.
